Animal drugs can be broadly categorised into two main categories, namely,

(i) compound chemical drugs comprising powdered drugs and injection drugs; and

(ii) biological drugs in the form of vaccines.

(i)Compound chemical drugs:

Compounded chemical drugs are produced by a chemical process or manufactured from chemicals, and include TCM formulated drugs which are drugs processed from a mixture and blend of plants, animal and/or mineral extracts (with plant extracts generally comprising the largest component). Compounded chemical drugs usually take the form of powdered drugs and injection drugs. Powdered drugs are generally used on animals without taste buds, such as poultry, which are largely purchased by poultry farmers and poultry-rearing corporations. Injection drugs are for animals with taste buds such as pigs and cattle, which are largely purchased by livestock farmers and corporations.


(ii)Biological drugs:

Biological drugs are a substance that is made from a living organism or its products and is used in the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of diseases.Biological drugs include antibodies and vaccines.Animal drugs in these forms comprise treatment and non-treatment drugs.Treatment drugs refer to those that are used to diagnose and treat animal diseases,regulate organ functions or cell metabolism, kill or destroy pathogenic micro-organism orparasites so as to prevent damage to the physical or biochemical functions of the animalbody or to restore its balance. Non-treatment drugs refer to those that are used to hastenthe growth, reproduction and productive abilities of animals, manoeuvre and strengthenthe animal body’s defence system and prevent animal diseases. Our non-treatmentdrugs include vitamins, disinfectants and prophylactics.
